SLIM-FITTED CUSTOM SUITS OF THE 60’s MAKES REVIVAL IN PHOENIX
Bespoke & Custom Local Tailor Shaping C-Suite Executives

October 2011 (Phoenix, Arizona) Influenced by television shows such as Mad Men, Pan Am and The Playboy Club, the revival of the 1960’s is alive and well with Phoenix executives.  Proving “what goes around comes around”, men’s suits today are taking a new shape with a slimmer, streamlined fit.  Slim is “in”, and stylish Phoenix professionals are dressing up in suits for cooler Valley temperatures.

Suiting up for the challenge is the Valley’s go-to tailor, Steve Wilson of S.W. Wilson: Bespoke & Custom Clothier, who is seeing a revitalization of the 60’s sophisticated men’s fashion.  A 4th generation bespoke and custom clothier, Steve Wilson is running the family business, now celebrating its 100th year.  S.W. Wilson clients include athletes, attorneys, investment bankers, physicians and Phoenix C-level executives who are all part of a fraternity of well-dressed men ahead of the trend with slimmer more modern cuts.  If clothes make the man, then standing apart from the sea of professionals is vital to the man who wants to remain relevant.

“Casual is on its way out, and the slim look of the 60’s has most definitely returned,” says Wilson.  I’m finding that many of my clients are requesting handsomely tailored, contemporary slim suits - most especially those men and women who are fit and lean in stature.  Yet, even the gentleman with a broader physique can wear a slim suit with the proper tailoring, thus, not only making him appear leaner, but also more current.”

The distinct 1960’s back-to-the-future look means shorter jackets, narrow lapels and shoulders; shorter trousers exposing socks; pocket-handkerchiefs and ascots.  Gone are wide ties and low rise, cuffed pants.  Back in style again are skinny ties and figure-flattering two-button timeless, yet classic suits.  Enhance this custom suit with a crisp, fitted shirt, and you have the mod, edgy look of the ’60s.  Colors have changed, as well.  Black and navy are being replaced with gray, for a more interesting and masculine look.  Starting at $800, a custom 60’s suit looks forward by looking back.

About Steve Wilson
S.W. Wilson: Bespoke & Custom Clothier is a family-operated business passed down through four generations, currently celebrating 100 years of custom suit tailoring.  The legacy began in 1911, when Steve Wilson’s great grandfather, Clyde Jess Wilson, started as a bench tailor in Ohio.  Clyde grew the business by creating true bespoke suits for his clients.  Every suit was individually made-to-measure using handpicked, quality fabrics.  Following WWI, Steve’s grandfather, Leo Wilson, joined his father, Clyde, adding a men’s retail clothing portion to the bespoke suit business.  This offered clients a wider range of price options, while maintaining a high quality line.  The third Wilson in the tradition was Thomas Wilson, Steve’s father, who joined the custom suit-making business after WWII.  In 1970, his son, Steve Wilson, joined his father and accompanied his family in the fabrication of high-quality suits.  In 2008, Steve Wilson brought the family business westward to Phoenix, Arizona.  Steve’s lineage and 41 years of growing up in this family business has given him the skills to offer the best in bespoke and custom suit cuts, construction, and quality.
