At S.W. Wilson Clothiers, we’ve been designing bespoke and custom-made men’s suits for more than a century, and while our expertise is an essential part of the design process, the fabrics we choose make a huge difference in the fit and feel of your garments. Here’s a quick look at the luxury fabrics we use.
Dormeuil opened its doors way back in 1842, importing the finest fabrics from the United Kingdom to France, and more than 175 years later, the company is still exporting some of the world’s finest fabrics.
While the fabrics originally were sourced from farms in the United Kingdom, Dormeuil now sources fabrics from places around the globe. This includes fine silks from Asia, merino wool from Australia, cashmere from Mongolia, pashmina from Ladakh (a region in Kashmir) and cotton from Egypt.
At S.W. Wilson, we use Dormeuil’s Iconik fabrics, made from 100% Australian wool. This fabric is highly water repellent as well as stain resistant, and the lightweight, stretchy wool is fantastically comfortable.
The Loro Piana family, who specializes in cashmere, vicuna and Merino wool fabrics, has been crafting fine textiles for more than 200 years. Not only does this company produce some of the best fabrics in the world, they have been essential in the preservation of the vicuna, which produces some of the most luxurious wools on the planet.
Our selection of Loro Piana fabrics includes the Tasmanian Collection, which uses the finest Australian wool, providing you with a lightweight fabric perfect for the warm Arizona and Texas weather. Loro Piana’s Royal Wish fabric collection is another option, a blend of wool with a touch of silk, ideal for formal suits.
Scabal’s history dates back to the 1930s, and for nearly a century, fine Scabal fabrics have been created in the town of Huddersfield, in West Yorkshire, although the company is Belgian in origin. Fine menswear crafted from Scabal fabrics has made its way into several motion pictures. For instance, Marlon Brando wore Scabal suits during his stint as Don Corleone in The Godfather.
We offer a wide selection of Scabal fabrics, some crafted from 100% wool, while others include a blend of wool and cashmere. There are Scabal fabrics ideal for formal suits, as well as lightweight suits perfect for the hot climates of the Southwest and lightweight fabrics designed specifically for a summer sport coat.
While it has its roots in 1930s, England, Gladson now has its headquarters in Manhattan along Fifth Avenue. Fabrics are woven in England and Italy, using the finest Merino wool, Schappe spun silk and other luxurious fibers.
Our Gladson fabric options include the Alazar IX Collection, which features wool and cashmere blends that are supremely comfortable. The Mercury II Collection is another option, lightweight and crafted from 100% Merino wool.
Custom-Made Vs. Bespoke
At S.W. Wilson, we offer both custom suits and bespoke suits, and customers are sometimes unsure of the difference. For both options, we use the finest of fabrics, but a bespoke suit is made from scratch and many parts of the suit will be hand-sewn by a custom tailor. A bespoke suit is a completely original garment, designed just for you.
With a custom suit, you still enjoy the luxurious fabrics, but we don’t start from scratch. Each custom suit is, however, tailored to your specific measurements, resulting in a much higher quality fit than any off-the-rack suit. Our affordable custom-made men’s suits will fit, feel and look amazing, and no other store provides our level of service or has more than 100 years of experience behind it. In addition to custom-made men’s suits, we also can design bespoke or custom-made suits for women. All of our customers enjoy a full-service concierge custom clothing experience, and we offer services in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tucson and the surrounding areas.
