Summer Wedding Suits Or Tuxedos For The Groom and Wedding Party?
The venue you choose will dictate how formal or informal the occasion will be, here are tips for choosing wedding suits or tuxedos for you and the groomsmen to wear at your wedding venue.
The Black Tie Formal Venue
For the bride who has dreamt of that fairytale wedding, a ballroom with a sit-down dinner or elegant buffet requires the wedding party and guests to dress in men’s formal wear.
As Prince Charming, you’ll be dashing in a fresco or tropical weight wool tuxedo with peak lapels as opposed to a less formal shawl collar. Evening affairs denote dark colored tuxes or pristine white dinner jackets. Crisp white shirts and pocket squares, cummerbunds or vests, and patent leather shoes are a must.
The Semi-formal Venue
Maybe the place you’ve chosen has a really nice atmosphere that’s classy without the formalities of a ballroom. Whether it’s in the evening or afternoon, you want the wedding party to stand out and your guests to dress up. Wearing tuxedos is still an option but you can branch out to solid colored summer suits in shades of blue, gray or tan.
Mens suits are totally acceptable and a practical solution for an outfit you can wear more than once or twice a year. Imagine the entire wedding party in richly colored suits of navy or gray complete with vests, white shirts and patterned ties that pop. Pastels are also a welcome addition to your summer wardrobe. We know you’ll be dancing up a storm, so whatever color you choose, stick with summer fabrics such as silk, linen blends or fine wool.
The Casual or Beach Venue
Are flip flops and Hawaiian shirts more your style? They’re okay for your guests if you’re exchanging vows on the beach, but you and your wedding party need to step it up a notch. You definitely need wedding attire that is as light and airy as the venue.
Various shades of tan and beige suits with unstructured (no lining) jackets are warm weather friendly in seersucker and linen. Go with an open shirt collar for a sporty look and a casual shoe without socks, sneakers or no shoes at all! For an even more casual vibe, skip the jacket and wear a matching vest that makes you look slim (and hides any extra pounds from all that cake-testing). Have a subtle patterned shirt with sleeves neatly rolled up—sloppy doesn’t cut it on this very special day.
Add a skinny textured tie and boutonniere with flowers typical of the season. If you’re a fashion forward kind of guy, wear lightweight khaki pants with a white cotton shirt and bold patterned suspenders and bowtie. Add a fedora with color coordinating feather or band.
The Right Fit
No matter which venue you choose, the most important thing is to get the fit of your summer wedding suits correct. Don’t settle for off-the-rack garments that “almost” fit or need lots of adjustments. This is your special day! Now is the time to try a custom suit or tux that’s made according to your own measurements for a fit that’s comfortable and perfect for your body type. SW Wilson will help you design wedding attire that’s exactly what you have in mind—all at a reasonable price.
